Light Relief after a Grey Start

"Things Seemed Brighter" © Glyn Davies 2009

As the end of 2009 closes in, as a year of darkness blows by, a gentle light still glows over the hills. This weekend saw me hit a low point but as an artist, I'm entitled to these dips :-) An artist's greatest works are often created in times of adversity or joy and I find that these peaks and troughs focus the mind. This roller coaster is hard for those around me but compared with say Goya, I guess I'm still tolerable to live with :-) For my customers it's probably always for the best because I feel inspired to escape and shoot images so even more choice available!

This morning, after several previous stunning sunrises but low water, I got up nice and early and headed for the Menai Strait. The light was - FLAT! Undeterred I just got my kit together and headed off, to enjoy a walk if nothing else. The woods were wet and the footpaths muddy and slippery but the sheer beauty of a mirror flat Strait, hardly moving on the flood tide, was simply awesome, wide and deep, a quiet Anaconda of water winding it's way between the land masses.

Three geese took off to my left and their calls and wing beats shattered the quietness. The rocks were dark and damp but their penetration into the vast light covered depths was a brave effort against the rising sea. A few car lights could be seen passing over Telford's bridge in the distance but they seemed a world away from my rocks, the ducks in the adjacent creek and the pulsating sunrise behind a shifting cloudscape.

I am privileged to live so close to such beauty. I am fortunate that I can get such an endorphins release from something as simple as an early morning amble. The week was looking brighter already and within an hour of reaching work I had sold a Limited Edition print. Having spent Sunday with my brother and sister in law and the most gorgeous adorable little nephew in the world, I feel a million times brighter this week.

After a very quiet Saturday I have had several lovely customers in this morning and have just sold this image to a long standing client of mine. I can't mention his name yet as this is a present for someone. Interestingly, I may have sold another Limited Edition mountain-scape as well this morning as the lady found her own cottage within the image :-)

I've also had a really rewarding early morning foray today, down at the waters edge on the Menai Strait. Blog post to follow, so all in all a more promising and positive start to the week :-)

DON'T FORGET:
VAT is increasing again in January so if you are thinking of making a purchase, now is the time to do so
