"It was a freezing cold evening after walking around the Mynydd Parys copper mines. There was hardly a drop of wind and the lake surface was in places like a mirror, just occasionally ruffled by the lightest puffs of breeze. Only the sound of wading birds broke the silence and tranquillity. As the sun dropped lower in the sky everything was bathed in an orange glow and two bulrushes in the reeds stood side by side as the light disappeared"
