He has been shooting images around Snowdonia recently and on seeing my new sign in the window for digital printing services, asked me if I could creatively process his Nikon NEF RAW files. After years of processing my own RAW files this was nevertheless the first time I'd ever done so for another photographer. It was actually REALLY exciting, as funnily enough I felt less inhibited about making adjustments on someone else's files, where I can be objective, than the internally SUBjective approach on my own! Mr Baarsel sat with me for the whole time and I continued to offer and receive feedback at each change, it worked flawlessly. I printed the master files on 200 year archival fine-art fibre-based rag-papers and they looked gorgeous! We framed two of these images for Mr Baarsel.
What was particularly nice for me on this first 'artistic' RAW processing job for someone else, was seeing some of the truly gorgeous locations he had been too! I feel especially inspired to visit Iceland now, (the country not the supermarket :-))
