This image of Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island) was chosen for the strong family connections with the area, and will form a visual element of her "Hiraeth" for Wales, now that she is living so far away from her homeland. She was very taken by this image in particular, and came to the gallery several times to view it, confirm her emotional connection to it, before finally making the decision to buy it.
Last week I had a phone call from Nia in South Africa, to say she was standing in the framers in Cape Town and wanted to check the measurements and framing materials I use over here, so that she can frame it almost exactly as if I'd done it for her. It was surreal to be measuring borders and frame widths, knowing Nia was thousands of miles away relaying the same words to her framer! I am looking forward to seeing a snap of her framed print finally in situ :-)
Actually, there is an even more ironic twist to this image sale, because I shot "You Have Arrived" as a means of relaxation after the pressure of photographing the Queen of Lesotho during her tour of Wales stop off at Nant Gwrtheyrn! I was there as official photographer for the visit. So created as a direct result of the visit of a beautiful African Queen, my Welsh image has now reconnected with South Africa :-)
