Brighter Dreams on Boxing Day

A disused bus sits in tree lined dead end. Early morning sunshine pours over the chemical works in the distance, and in through the bus windows. Just beyond the old bus, down a steep embankment, lies an industrial canal floats upon which equally disused canal barges float motionless.

This is from a small number of images I shot over Christmas & Boxing Day whilst staying in Northwich with my brother and his family. The relationship between nature and the area's huge chemical and rock salt industry, created surreal landscapes, reminiscent of Tarkowsky films. Combined with the dreary weather and my own melancholy state of mind due to personal circumstances, my resulting images are metaphorical: dark, sad, brooding but with delicate sheets of light, glimmers of hope and the reassurance that change is constant, inevitable and unsettling, but that within dark dreams there is sometimes enlightenment and heightened clarity.

I love the gritty feel to the abandoned bus image, such a total 'other genre' quality from your other work Glyn, showing it in mono also makes it stand out in an amazing way.

Thanks Ken

My life is going through some major changes at present, so I guess the influence on my locations, subject and moods will also be affected. Deffo a 'dark' period for me but with these rays of hopeful if weak sunshine ever present.

There is likely to be a far wider range of locations featuring in my work from 2013 onwards. More travel is the name of the game.

Happy New Year to you mate, and as always, big respect to you for your support and friendship.
