A Private Performance for June

Just two or three days ago, I posted a brand new image of the Llyn Peninsula on my Gallery Facebook page and it received loads of likes and comments, but for one lady in particular, it became hugely emotionally charged. Ten years ago to the day I posted the image, her Dad had died and she was finding the whole day very difficult. I had sent her a heartfelt condolence concerning her feelings of loss but June had privately messaged me about her instant love of that picture, it made her smile and made her heart lift. She just had to come and see the image for real in the gallery.

June looked round the rest of the gallery with her husband Roy (who fell in love with my South Stack image, "Touches in the Darkness") but on viewing the large screen version of "A Private Performance" large on my Eizo, she just knew it was the image for her. The smile on her face and the happiness within her was infectious and we both felt sure her Dad would be smiling at her joy.

I am delighted to say that the image is now printed, ready to be framed, and I know she is going to love it! Sometimes, during darker moments in life, something just comes along that day, or that week, which lifts your soul again. For June in her deep thoughts about her Dad, it was something as simple as a moody seascape print, and her clear joy and lifted heart literally brought tears to my eyes, and we had a big hug before she left! Apart from the obvious happiness at selling one of my personal images, I was left even happier by the friendly intimacy I felt between us. Her Dad was definitely watching out for her that's all I can say, and every time she looks at this image she will feel that connection.

June, thank YOU X

Touches in the Darkness

The first of the A2 Edition of "Touches in the Darkness" sold today to Roy from Rhos on Sea. He was very nearly tempted by Red Flash White Flash but the simple architectural composition of "Touches.." just pulled him more. I was delighted as it's the first time I've had the excuse to GO LARGE on this image and it looks brilliant.

The title is a result of something spooky going on during the exposure. I was totally alone on the steep steps down the cliff face to the bridge across the gorge to the lighthouse, and was concentrating on looking through the viewfinder, as well as maintaining stability in the stiff breeze skimming the cliffs. Suddenly something very definitely pushed past me from behind and I immediately looked up from the camera to see who it was who had been in so much of a hurry to get past, but there was NO ONE there, above or below me. I had to put it down to a sudden gust of wind but nevertheless it was quite unnerving and as I retreated back yp the hundreds of steep steps to my isolated black van, I couldn't help but check behind me every so often, just to see I wasn't being followed.

The image itself I still like regardless of background story, as the balance between the flashing light and the small pale cloud, looking like a cloud of smoke or steam from the tower, had me fascinated by the juxtaposition, it's what makes the shot for me.
